Reiki is a very old bodywork technique which induces a very deep state of relaxation through the application of Universal Life Force Energy. The philosophy of Reiki is based on the premise that we have "chakras" or energy centers along the spinal column of our bodies which have an intimate relationship to the internal organs and to the auto immune system. The strength and integrity of the electromagnetic aura has been said to be in direct proportion to the strength and integrity of our auto-immune system function. Reiki is administered by the technique of "laying on of hands" at key points along the body as the practitioner is guided. The hands are very sensitive to the changes in the feel of the electromagnetic field of the person receiving treatment. It is a very meditative practice. The only thing that is required of the recipient is to relax and enjoy this non invasive energetic treatment. The effects of a Reiki treatment are very different for different people. The differences are completely dependent upon how a person carries or manifests his or her level of stress. For some people, it is not uncommon to experience flu like systems after a treatment. This is due to the fact that a detoxification of the body is set into motion very much like some massage techniques will do. It is recommended to drink a lot of water after a treatment to help to cleanse the body if this process occurs. For some people the detoxification can take place at the emotional or spiritual level and transformational experiences may manifest. Reiki can in some cases assist the recipient in the retrieval of forgotten memories which may be stored at the cellular level. There is absolutely no way of being able to predict how a treatment will affect any person. Some people simply experience a very deep state of relaxation and nothing more. Reiki may be experienced by the same person , differently on repeat treatments as well. Different practitioners may assist in the manifestation of different results at different stages in a person's healing journey. Reiki is not intended as a replacement therapy or a diagnostic tool for any medical conditions. If you have questions regarding your health, please consult your primary health care practitioner. How does Reiki work on animals? Reiki works on animals essentially the same way it does on humans. There are some factors to take into consideration when treating animals however. Animals are a great deal more sensitive to stimulus from the environment. Their reactions are usually faster and a great deal more instinctive. Just as humans may experience emotional outbursts or traumatic memories at the cellular level during a healing process, so may animals. It is therefore imperative that the handlers and practitioners who work with these animals take adequate precautions to prepare for potentially unpredictable and temporarily dangerous emotional responses from the animals. Pet owners must use caution especially around horses for a few days after a treatment, especially if the horse is fractious or difficult to handle initially anyway. Episodes of pulling back, kicking or biting may occur when a horse processes undesirable memories or sensations as a result of treatment. Horses may also behave unpredictably for an opposite reason... if they have felt poorly for a long time and suddenly had some energetic blockages removed, they may feel very good all of a sudden and experience sudden bursts of energy which can manifest in bucking episodes or other undesirable behavior where a rider or handler may be involved. They may overdo the amount of exertion that is good for them if they feel too good too quickly and precautions must be made to control the animal as best as possible so that it does not hurt itself prematurely in the healing process. Animals are very much at the mercy of their environmental conditioning. Many horses are moved from owner to owner to owner, and may have come from abusive situations where a great deal of trauma physically or mentally may have happened to the animal while in a training program. Physical injuries are numerous in the horse industry to both horse and rider. They are athletes and like human athletes they are subjected to the same kind of athletic physical stress that human athletes are, and they require special attention to maintain their bodies to function at the level they are required to, in the industry. There are many very humane maintenance therapies in the horse industry that are becoming popular now. Many horse owners who can afford the luxury can be found scheduling weekly or monthly massage appointments, chiropractic appointments or acupuncture appointments for their very happy animals to maintain optimum health and competitive function. It should not be assumed that all horses in the competitive industry are abused. Like people, many of them enjoy what they do, but some have been asked to do more then they may have been capable of. All athletes experience wear and tear of the body. Animals are no different, whether they are show horses, search and rescue dogs, police dogs, or any other species who may be required to do more then simply sit around a be a pet. Many dogs can be found who have been dumped on the roadside or turned into the pound who may have less then desirable pasts where they may have been beaten or abused in some way. All animals have a past good or bad of some kind just as people do and their bodies maintain the awareness and memory of that past experience just like people do. I have found that dogs are actually kind of difficult to administer Reiki to. They do not usually sit still very long and can be hard to maintain their attention span and level of receptivity to the treatment unless they happen to lay down and fall asleep. Some do, some don't and some just want to hop around and wag their tails and lick your face. At home in their own environments where they may be more at ease is probably likely to produce better results in dogs, but in a strange setting during an appointment where the dog might have to be driven to the practitioner, the results may not be as good. Cats are cats... and they do whatever the hell cats feel like doing.. They do however seem to be bodywork energy junkies and if your giving a massage treatment or other form of bodywork therapy to someone else, they usually end up in the middle of it somehow demanding your attention. Horses in my experience are the easiest animals to treat however being a horse person I am possibly biased in my assessment. Click Below For: |
